Certificate in English for International Understanding
While Southeast Asia as a region is rich in terms of its diversity of languages and richness of cultural differences, it also faces the challenge of having many languages, which can make it difficult for intra-regional communication and international understanding. English is increasingly used as a lingua franca among speakers of diverse languages and cultures in this region and as such there is a need to raise awareness of the challenges in communication across different speakers of the English language. This course examines the linguistic and cultural dimensions that English language teachers in the region need, to incorporate in their teaching of oracy skills as they teach a model of English for International Understanding (EIU).
